Silvertree, Hiddenblade, Ashheart, Swiftstorm, Oakenflower, Valorbrand, and Nightwing—these are the Seven Tribes of Berinfell, Elves mighty both in wisdom and power.
Their offspring, Lords of Berinfell and heirs to the Seven Thrones, were thought lost…until now. They exist among the children of earth. Maybe one of your friends…maybe you.
So begins the quest. You, faithful reader, have the opportunity to create your very own Tribe. Together, you and your tribe members will compete against other tribes world-wide. Your goal: complete as many tasks as you can, earn the most Vanadils (the most valuable coins in Allrya), and seek the many Rewards that await.
EXPERT TIP #1: Read all the rules, ALL the rule! There are ways to multiply your points BIG TIME, but if you just skim the text, you'll miss 'em!
HERE ARE THE RULES:
• Anyone may start a tribe. The first seven tribes begun will have the option of using one of the Official Berinfell Tribe names mentioned above. Of course, you may always choose your own, but once the original Berifnell Tribes are used up, they are gone for good.
• A tribe is not official until you have at least 21 people in your tribe. But keep in mind: Tribes are NOT capped at 21 people. The larger your tribe, the higher the points you’ll likely earn. Your tribe members can be family members, friends, classmates, or a mixture of all. Tribe members should be active and must contribute to your tribe’s acquisition of Elven Vanadils.
• Once you form your Tribe, you need to provide us with a list of names and emails for each tribe member. Christopher and I will absolutely NOT give your email to ANYONE. We will, however, add you to the Tribes of Berinfell eNewsletter which will give you book news, sneak peeks, desktop art, etc. ;-)
• Your tribe members do not need to be close to you geographically. In other words, your tribe could be made of a cousin from NY, an uncle from Florida, and an Internet friend from New Zealand. However, if you win the Grand Prize, you’ll see that there is a benefit to being geographically close.
TRIBE ACTIVATION:
Christopher and I hope to see a massive turnout for this event as we are offering some amazing prizes. All tribes will be considered “Dormant” until we have at least seven tribes competing. Once we have seven active tribes, we will announce that all Tribes are Live.
Note: The first 7 tribes will have the option of choosing one of the tribe names of the original 7 tribes of Berinfell or creating their own.
CREATING A TRIBE HOME:
• Facebook offers the ability to create a page for your Tribe where other users can sign up and join in. A Tribe Page gives all active members a visual place to check in and stay updated with each other and gathering info and input. Tribes that do use this will have a distinct advantage. BUT its not necessary. Email can serve the same purposes…you just need to create a group.
There are three ways to establish your Tribe. First off, a Tribe Leader needs to be designated. Secondly, depending on the internet capabilities of his or her potential tribe mates, the Leader can either: A.) Create a group on FaceBook for your tribe and invite your friends (which we highly recommend), B.) Create an email group and communicate with them that way, or C.) Create a phone-tree if internet is not available (*please note, the tribe Leader MUST have access to the internet). Whichever way you choose, we recommend you staying in constant contact with your Tribe as you will be promoting events and tabulating results to report in on a regular basis. Either way, we need a list and emails of all participating Tribe mates for our records.
DURATION OF ADVENTURE:
The Tribe Building Adventure begins immediately and lasts until midnight, January 1, 2010.

• Do your homework well without having to be told. Have your parent/guardian jot a note to prove it. (You can do this up to 10 times, totaling up to 1000 points for each member of your Tribe) *What does this have to do with the books? Er…well, nothing. We just don’t want you skipping homework to do these tasks!
200 Vanadils:
• Put a banner ad for any of our books up on your site. The ad should link to the Amazon page for our book. Include the source code in your Tribe Report.
• If you come to any of our Book Release Events, just introduce yourself and your Tribe, and you’ll get Glory Points. We’ll have a sign up sheet there. You get bonus points for coming based on how far you had to travel to get to the event. The farther you traveled to get there, the more points for your Tribe.
•Post cover artwork from any of our books on your blog and make it a link to Amazon or CBD. Include the link in your Tribe Report.
• Email a digital photo of you with a store employee in a bookstore where any of our books are shelved. In the photo, I must be able to see the book on the shelf and in your hands. Every photo you send is worth 200 points, but each photo must be from a different store, and with each photo, include the name and address of the store as well as the name of the employee. Please let me know if I am allowed to post the photo on the blog. This is repeatable for each of our books.
Because some people live in small towns without any bookstores, I will allow you to ask friends to get photos for you. The friend must be in the photo along with the store employee.
•Create an Amazon Listmania List that includes any of our books. (10 Listmania Limit: 2000pts total per tribe member)
• Create a Facebook Fan Page for any of our books. (1 per book, per Tribe Member)
500 Vanadils:
•Write a review of any of our books on Amazon or any of the following online review sites: CBD, Goodreads, Shelfari, ScienceFictionandFantasyWorld.com, Incredibooks, B&N, Borders, BAMM, etc. The review must show that you’ve read the book. You may post reviews in multiple places (up to 10) for multiple credit. In other words, if you write a review for Curse of the Spider King, you can post that review 10 different places for a total of 2000 points per member per book reviewed. Include the links for ALL reviews in the Tribe Report.
• Make a poster about Curse of the Spider King and put it on a school, church, or store bulletin board. The poster has to be at least eight and a half by eleven inches, which is the sized of standard paper, and it must have an image of the book cover.
You can get the book cover image by clicking HERE. A poster needs to include where a person can purchase the book locally, or if there is no local place to get it, mention that it can be purchased online at Christianbook.com, Amazon.com, or another online bookseller.
A poster is worth 500 points, but you won't get extra points for more than one poster at the same school. You may put the poster up in many different places, but only one credit per establishment. To get credit for a poster, please send me a digital photo of you at the place where you placed it. And please include whether or not I have your permission to post the photo on my blog.—these should be included in the Tribe Report.
•Buy a copy of any of the 8 fantasy fiction tour author’s books: Sharon Hinck, Bryan Davis, Christopher Hopper, LB Graham, Donita K. Paul, Eric Reinhold, or Jonathan Rogers. Include receipts in your Tribe Report. Please remember that ALL sales must be from Sept. 7th forward.
1000 Vanadils:
• Watch for Today Only Quests Coming Soon—these are time sensitive tasks will be offered for just a limited time.
• Recommend One of our books to someone. If that person buys it, send me a scanned photocopy of the receipt by email. The receipt must show the store name and the date, and the date must be on or later than today's date, September 25th, 2009. Include the receipt in your Tribe Report.
• Amazon gives authors the power to create Purchasing Links for their books. I've created links for each of our books. Email Christopher or Me and request the HTML code for each of our books linking to Amazon. Put this code on your website or blog, creating a sales link to Amazon, and you get 1000 points (max of 1 code link for each book). Please note: this HTML code is directly from Amazon.com. We have them posted on our sites and have had no problems. But we cannot be liable if some virus or wee beastie gets into your site because Amazon’s code had it embedded or some such. As always, include the link in your Tribe Report.
• Write AND present a book report on any Wayne Thomas Batson or Christopher Hopper book at school. 500 bonus points if you earn an A+ for that assignment. Scan graded report and include it in Tribe Report.
2000 Vanadils:
•Go to a store that does not carry one of our books and special order it from that store. The receipt must show the store name and the date, and the date must be on or later than today's date, September 25th, 2009. Include the receipt in your Tribe Report.
•Go to a store that does not carry one of our books and persuade them to carry any of our books. Include the name of the store and a phone number for the store in your Tribe Report. (This is open ended. As many times as you can)
•Buy any of our books and donate them to your church library. The receipt must show the store name and the date, and the date must be on or later than today's date, September 7th, 2009. Include the receipt in your Tribe Report. Tell us what church received them.
• Make a video supporting Curse of the Spider King and post it on Youtube or tangle.com. You can interview people, use music or artwork, or even recruit people to join the contest. If you don't mind, I would like you to include a positive comment or two about the book. Make it imaginative, funny, insightful, anything (within reason) to attract attention. Include the link in your Tribe Report.
Posting a video will be worth 2000 points, but only one video per person per book will count. As the contest draws to a close, we will award an additional 1000 points to the person who makes the best video (in the opinion of the judges).
3000 Vanadils:
•Buy Curse of the Spider King from Amazon.com on the day of October 7th! Include the receipt in your Tribe Report. This is official “Elves Invade Amazon Day!” We want to drive CotSK right up the Bestseller List that day!
Bonus 5000 points for your Tribe if 5 or more Tribe member purchased CotSK that day and CotSK appears in Amazon’s top 100 bestselling books that day!
5000 Vanadils :
• Someone in your Tribe must solve the Alternate Reality Game that has already begun on http://www.heedtheprophecies.com. Go to the forum called The Underground for details. Or search Mr. Hopper or Mr. Batson’s webpages for the “rabbit hole.”
• Purchase a copy of Curse of the Spider King and give it to a school librarian or community librarian. In the book several heroic characters are librarians and/or teachers. Christopher Hopper and Wayne Thomas Batson want librarians around the world to know they are heroes to us and the kids they serve. Note: this is repeatable as often as you like, so long as you are giving books to different librarians each time. Include receipt in your Tribe Report, as well as, the name of the librarian and the address of the library. We want to send signed stickers to the librarians.
The Amazing Open Category:
•Suppose you have an idea for something that you think will promote one or all of our books, BUT you don’t see it posted on our blogs. Email us your idea. If it’s good, we’ll tell you how many points it’s worth—we like to reward creativity! We will then post your idea on our blogs so others can do it too. But you will get more points for your Tribe for being the creative one who came up with the plan. Draw your sword! Schiing!!
Disclaimers and Must Mentions:
Note: Any and all of the requirements are subject to change as we see how this develops. We want to keep it fair.
Note: We hope this competition stays loving and friendly. Although we hope you want to win the prizes, we also hope you want to share with others the benefit of reading our books. Since our books don’t overtly preach, it's a great opportunity to introduce your friends to a story that will get them asking questions.
Note: Pure honesty is expected from ALL Tribe Members.
Tribe Reports:
Email me a “Tribe Report” every day of the month that is a multiple of Seven. In other words, send me a report on October 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, etc. etc.
The Tribe Report includes a list of each member of the tribe, what they did, and glory points earned. Please total the new points earned. Please include links for anything posted on the Internet. Please include attachments of any receipts, jpegs, etc.
When you email me the Tribe Report, you can make it the text field of the email, attach it as word or pdf. Please put “Tribe Report_Date_TribeName” in the subject line of the email.
