    The White Lion Chronicles.

And yes, unless you're ten years old and devoured LOTR, I would say 13 is a good starting age for my first series.

    And Whisper & Storyteller,

I can't win. For most girls I have too much violence, and from most guys I have too much romance. Girls ask for more love story, guys ask for more action. As for "shameless mushiness," I think you should finish the book; it's FAR more brutal then it is cooties.

And for the record, I'm a hopeless romantic...with at least seven swords hung in my bedroom! (Yes, I have an awesome wife; who else would let her husband put up medieval weaponry in their bedroom!). ch:

    Mr. Hopper,

First of all, I hope I did not offend you with my comment about your book. I actually am myself a girl yet am no fan of this kind of romance... :D I'd much much rather have action. One thing I am appreciating in The Lion Vrie is actually, in a way, the violence. Yes, it sickens me, yes, it's terrible, but I've never read a book that portrays it quite the way yours does: brutally realistic. It deepens the emotion of the book and makes it all the more sad. I care much more for the characters.

One thing that really struck me was the scene with Pelidril; when Fonish and his fellow 'taken' had come. Oddly moving... creepy... noble... not something I'm going to forget for a long time.

You have a very interesting way with words, Mr. Hopper, and I have found myself several times spiritually challenged or encouraged with various lines in the books. So, they are good, and I am enjoying them. I just don't care for the romance. :)

Again, I am sorry if I said anything to offend you.

    Sir Hopper,

Romance is undoubtedly a gift from God, and as a married man, you should be romantic toward your wife. My argument is that 13 year old teens are not ready for romance, and yet they are besieged by it. The White Lion Chronicles, as far as I have read, are much cleaner than most other stories, and for that I thank you.

As someone who is not yet ready for romance and marriage, I would rather read something that will put my focus on what God has for my life right now. Your books do a very good job of this, but, as I said in the review on my blog, the one thing that bothers me is the romance.

Believe me, it is not only your books that I think that of. Your books I have a minimal problem with. It seems to me that every writer of teens and children includes romance, and I only wish they wouldn't all the time.

I have written a short series of posts on this subject at http://www.storytellerjourney.blogspot.com to be released over the next few days. In them, I think I explain exactly what I think clearly, so if you wish to understand where I am coming from, sir, you are welcome to read them.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I liked Hopper romance BECAUSE it followed the very things you say you agree with ST. :) Everyone was honorable in their relationships. And I wish more books and people were like that lol

    Storyteller, I concur.

Madeline, my sentiments are the same. I didn't want to be so blunt, but.... I too can not stand the romance. :)

Hee-hee, my brother and I have had many late-night conversations about our..... DEEP disgust of the romance between Arwen and Aragorn in LOTR. we - hate - it....!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Lol, I hope I didn't offend anyone there. If so, my sincere apologies.

Macey, I did not mean that 13 was the limit. I mean any age that is not ready for marriage, be it 10 or 17.

Keeneye, as I stated, Hopper's romance is much better than others. However, my feelings are that romance in books for children and teens is unnecessary. Now, I have not finished The Lion Vrie, but thus far, the love between Luik and and the princess has not been very inspiring. It seems to me that they both had a crush on each other, and they both got lucky that the other one did too. What if the princess didn't love Luik? He would be quite sad. But, as I said, I haven't finished it; this has been my observation thus far.
